How to ask for a job referral

Approaching someone for a job referral can be daunting- especially if you don’t know the person. While some people love to approach a person, build connection and then ask for a referral, a lot of industry professionals can sense what you really want is a referral and recommendation. This is a pre built template that has been tested by many people who successfully got recommended for a job. This template can be used in LinkedIn messages or in emails.

Hi [Name of the contact],
“Insert what you have in common with the professional that you are asking for a referral to. (This could be things like – I graduated from XYZ school recently Or I interned at XYZ company during my first year of college.)“. I am really interested in applying to [“the link of the role for which you are applying”] as a [“Role to which you are applying”]. Would you be open to sharing my resume with the hiring team so that they know about my interest in this role? Happy to chat more if you have time. Thank you very much and I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
